Market your Web |

Online Marketing Plan“Build it and they will come”! Sure, but make sure you show them how to get there. Unfortunately there are still many people who expend great amounts of energy in producing a lovely site, but no time or thought in how to generate the traffic they need. As part of your branding strategy, one would hope that all print collateral would promote your website and it’s advantages to your users. However, you want to be able to attract those people who are already out there on the web, just waiting to be found. Before we start spending any of your money on “getting your site out there”, what are you expecting in return, what’s your budgeted Return on Investment (ROI)? Remember it's not going to be the same as your "Bricks & Mortar" marketing plan. You're in a different market, with different rules, competitors and potential customers. That on it’s own will help decide where your money goes. Next you determine your demographics, now you can consider how you're going to a) reach them and b) attract them. With a well designed site (read search engine friendly), well chosen meta tags and alt tags, initial registering with key search engines and a month or two, you will appear well within the search engines. But that's just to start. Should you go into PPC, Inclusion, Banner ads, affiliate programs, create your own affiliate program, more search engine registering, purchase other domains, mirrors, get into ezines, blogs, email programs . . . As you can see there are quite a few methods available, though all with the same aim – Get Users landing on your website. And some of them are Free! The caveat is it takes time and hard work to achieve the results. If you advertise in Print media you are no doubt aware that you often need different graphics and copy each time, even if it's just to resize a picture. Advertising on the web is no different. The advantage is that the modifications can be done and added to a site so much faster. Now you've worked out how you're going to get people to you. Do you have a plan in place to monitor how effective each of these strategies is going to be? This will help you determine your ROI and demographics of your users. Which in turn will help you refine your Online Marketing Plan! |
